Electis

Electis, online CSE voting platform

Problem
Setting up a CSE election is a legal process with many parameters, and on the platform it was one long technical page.
Solution
The setup redesigned and restructured from its architecture: the same information in clear steps, so users can set up a CSE election on their own.
My role
Product Designer, in a team of three with an operations specialist and an engineer.

Methodology
Information architecture first, then prototyping, user testing and design QA on every release.

Electis is an online voting platform built on open-source code, designed for transparent and secure elections in companies.

What I did

  • Redesigning and restructuring the platform from its architecture.
  • Mapping the flows of each type of election.
  • Prototyping and testing with the team and with users.
  • Proposing features that simplify a complex product.
  • Building the design system and handing it off.
  • QA after every released version.

Product decisions

  1. The same information, reorganized

Nothing was added to the setup; it was reorganized. One long technical page became clear groups (calendar, polling office, voters, candidates), each one a step in a sidebar that can be completed in any order.

  2. Always know what is missing

Every step shows its status, and a checklist next to the form spells out what is left before the election can be created.

  3. Legal first, then simple

The flow for CSE elections had to follow legal and procedural rules. The design work was making that compliance feel simple and transparent.

The Electis election setup: steps in a sidebar and a voters import

01

The starting point

The old platform had no clear information architecture: steps of the flow were missing their own screens, navigation relied on breadcrumbs that were hard to follow, and nothing told the user where they were or what came next. The redesign restructures it into steps you can follow and check.

The election setup after the redesign: steps in a sidebar with their status, here the polling office members
The election page before the redesign: a single page with every parameter

02

Mapping the flow

For CSE elections the flow had to comply with legal and procedural requirements while staying simple and transparent. Mapping it first showed where the product could guide instead of ask.

The new setup

Prototyped and tested with the team and with users, then iterated release after release.

Company information

Establishment, company and colleges: three short tabs instead of one long form, each with its own status.

Election information

Key dates, polling office members and candidates. A checklist on the side tells what is left before the election can be activated.

The election, live

Once activated, the setup turns into a timeline: what is happening now, what comes next and what is already done.
